Women Reaching for Jesus, Helping Children

A record breaking number of Women of Compassion members gathered for the annual Cups of Kindness event held April 6 at the Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City. Women from across Oklahoma gathered to hear great speakers, worship together, fellowship with one another and award grants to important projects at OBHC ministries. Guest speakers were Jackie Green and Lauren Green McAfee and worship was led by Blake and Jenna Bolerjack.

"We reached a wonderful milestone this year with our Women of Compassion membership exceeding 200 women. That means over $200,000 to help children and families throughout Oklahoma. I am honored to be part of this group of strong caring women,” said Shonda Flowers, Event Coordinator.

The ministry projects receiving the top three votes were awarded a $50,000 grant.

  1. Boys Ranch Town received the most votes to begin the major process of replacing the 50-year-old sewage system on campus. The grant will provide funds to immediately address first the sections with broken lines and blockages. This grant awards enough for the major repair, as well as the costs associated with hiring a private contractor to oversee the work.
  2. Hope Pregnancy Centers received second place votes to begin a concentrated six-month online messaging strategy to reach the most abortion vulnerable in the state. In the past two years, abortion advocates have made concentrated efforts to promote abortion in Oklahoma. Marketing for abortion services, negative campaigns against pregnancy centers as well as the addition of two abortion facilities in Oklahoma caused a 10 percent increase in abortions in 2017. Through this grant, Hope expects more abortion vulnerable clients to walk through their doors and hear the truth before they choose abortion.
  3. Baptist Children’s Home, Owasso was awarded the last $50,000 grant. The campus will use these funds for added security measures, increasing lighting around the campus walking trail, prayer garden, apartments and park. The grant will also fund a much needed remodel for the gymnasium restrooms, which have not been updated since the gym was built in the 1980s.
  4. Another $50,000 grant is awarded to the general fund to assist all OBHC ministries, and since more than 200 women joined this year, the remaining money will help LifeWize continue ministry in schools throughout the state.
