Trent’s Story

A new year encourages resolutions, fresh beginnings, and a sense of renewed hope. Trent* is an example of someone who has experienced a new hope while at Boys Ranch Town (BRT). Trent has lived at BRT since September 2023 after moving from his grandmother’s home near Ardmore. Before that, he spent most of his childhood living with his parents and siblings, but family struggles—including frequent arguments and financial instability caused by substance abuse—led to a difficult home environment. When his parents could no longer afford rent, Trent and his siblings moved in with their grandmother, who cared for them as best she could despite health challenges. Eventually, through a connection at his grandmother’s church, Trent and his siblings were introduced to Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children (OBHC), where they were accepted and began a new chapter in their lives.

Initially, Trent resisted the idea of moving to BRT, fearing the drastic change and loss of familiar comforts. “I did not want to go at all. I had zero interest and zero will to want to go, because it was a big change,” he recalled. However, after visiting the campus and realizing the structure and opportunities it offered, he decided to embrace the transition. Life at BRT brought significant changes for Trent, including the development of leadership skills and a sense of responsibility as an older boy setting an example for younger residents. He became involved in various programs such as welding, leatherwork, and the show program, which gave him purpose and helped him grow personally. Living in a cottage with other boys and houseparents taught him patience, maturity, and the value of community.

One of the most profound transformations in Trent’s life has been his spiritual journey. Coming to BRT exposed him to consistent church involvement and faith-based activities, which eventually led him to accept Christ. “I needed Jesus because of the fact that He saved me from my sin, my issues, my problems,” Trent shared. This decision brought peace, hope, and a sense of meaning that continues to guide him daily. Looking ahead, Trent plans to pursue college—possibly in engineering or forensic science—and hopes to maintain strong relationships with his siblings while serving others and growing in his faith. He credits BRT’s structure, supportive environment, and opportunities for hard work as key factors in shaping his future. Praise God for how Trent has experienced love in action at Boys Ranch Town.
