Women of Compassion 2014

On Saturday, April 5, 2014, a never-before assembled group of women from across Oklahoma and beyond came together at the Skirvin Hotel, forming the inaugural membership of Women of Compassion. The women were responsible for choosing an OBHC project to award the first-ever $50,000 Women of Compassion Grant. After learning about the ministries of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children and hearing from national speaker and author, Pam Kanaly, members were ready to cast their vote.

At the event, each charter member received a ballot detailing five “Cups of Kindness,” or ministry projects at various OBHC locations. As the votes were tallied, the women enjoyed a performance from “Speechless,” a talented group of young ladies from Baptist Homes for Girls who perform sign language to contemporary Christian songs.

The 2014 Women of Compassion Grant of $50,000 will go toward safety and security at Baptist Children’s Home, Oklahoma City.

The 2013 May tornado that devastated parts of Moore came within one mile of Baptist Children’s Home, OKC.  The installation of five 16-20 person storm shelters behind five of the cottages and one 30 person storm shelter to accommodate the duplexes will greatly enhance the safety of everyone on the campus. These shelters will provide close and quick access for children and adults.

In addition, security cameras will also be installed throughout the campus. Outdoor security cameras will increase the overall safety and security of the residents and staff. Surveillance cameras can provide invaluable visual evidence for activity and other specific events that have taken place within or around our campus.

Shonda Flowers, event coordinator said, “I cannot wait to see how the Lord will use us as we commit to show His love to others through giving and praying.”

We want to express our greatest thankfulness to the charter members of Women of Compassion. We are so thankful for the kingdom impact you have made for the children in the care of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children.

“And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.” ~ Matthew 10:42
