LifeWize
What’s the problem?
The 2017 Oklahoma Youth Risk Behavior Survey indicates that among public high school students:
- 43% had ever had sexual intercourse
- 4% had sexual intercourse for the first time before 13 years of age
- 11% had sexual intercourse with four or more persons during their life
- 28% were currently sexually active
- 18% drank alcohol or used drugs before last sexual intercourse
- 50% did not use a condom during last sexual intercourse
- 15% did not use any method to prevent pregnancy during last sexual intercourse
LifeWize is a volunteer, educational program that strives to empower middle school and high school students with character-based lessons including healthy decision-making, goal setting, life skills and sexual risk avoidance education. LifeWize uses a nationally approved curriculum and can be presented in a classroom or school assembly and can be tailored to meet the individual needs and schedules of your school. Last year, LifeWize had 2,038 students and 10 public school districts participate in its program.
LifeWize is made up of three different programs. The main program is:
- Better Choices for a Better Future – a life skills and sexual risk avoidance program. This class:

- Can be presented during classroom or assembly style using the nationally approved curriculum.
- Can be taught by community volunteers who have a minimum of 24 hours of abstinence training and OSBI background checks.
- Is a six to eight week program, 45 minutes to one hour each week.
- Offers age-appropriate presentations for grades 6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12.
- Is character driven, interactive presentations.
LifeWize also teaches:

- Empowered Parenting - a program that teaches prenatal and infant education to teens who are pregnant and in school.
- Young Parenting - for teen parents who have already given birth and teaches them about early childhood development.
