Light Their Way

Many churches hold candlelight Christmas Eve services as a reminder that Christ brought light into a darkened world and is the Light of the World. The Apostle John wrote, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1:4-5 KJV)

Candles are often used as symbols at worship services and weddings. The candles in an Advent wreath represent expectation, hope, joy, purity, and Jesus, because He is the light of the world. The light of a single candle can banish darkness, and the flame spreading to other candles represents how the gospel grows and illuminates the world.

Candles can also represent one type of planned giving: endowment giving.

Endowment gifts are invested and produce a permanent source of income for our ministry. OBHC President Tony Kennedy has said many times, “Endowments are like candles in the sense that they provide light in the darkness of an uncertain future. They permit us to look ahead and plan with confidence. They shine rays of hope.”

Endowment funds are like perpetual flames that provide financial light for future generations.

Many years ago, friends of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children were wise enough to light the endowment candle, and the glow from their gifts still lights the way for children to become capable, caring Christian adults.

Mr. Kennedy says, “You can create your own endowment and light a candle of hope. Future generations will benefit from your foresight.”

One of the finest things you can do with part of your charitable giving is to light an endowment candle. You can do it now with cash or securities, or later through your will or trust remainder. The paperwork is minimal compared to the satisfaction you will receive.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  Matthew 5:16 KJV
