Baptist Children's Home, Owasso Celebrates 30 Years

May 3, 2003 was a big day for the Baptist Children's Home, Owasso, as they celebrated their 30th anniversary. The activities included music from gospel groups, the petting zoo from Boys Ranch Town, classic and new cars from area dealerships, games, displays from several community organizations and businesses, hotdogs, and birthday cake.

Three administrators at Baptist Children's Home, Owasso were present: Mike Nomura, administrator from 1974-1988, current administrator, Steve Singleterry; and Tandy James who is now Executive Vice President of OBHC. Mrs. Vona Smithee, who is holding the birthday cake, was the first housemother and now resides next door at the retirement center.

Stormy weather caused the festivities to end earlier than planned, but the rain did not put an end to the smiles, laughter, and gratitude for 30 years of providing hope and homes for children.

Entertainment included:

  • Live Christian Music
  • Children's activities, petting zoo, horse rides and programs
  • Children's Home Heritage Exhibit
  • Tour of Shannon Cottage
  • Free cake and hot dogs
  • Gayla Earlene, Christian Country Female Artist
  • Southern Gospel Quartet in concert "Southern Joy"
