Sandy and Larry Stewart

Sandy began volunteering at Hope in 1997. In 2003, she came on staff as part-time nurse manager when Hope began offering ultrasounds at the Hope Pregnancy Center North, OKC center. Sandy was instrumental in drafting policies, recruiting a Medical Director and setting up the ultrasound room. At a time when offering ultrasounds was new to pregnancy center work, Sandy's research and diligence to help Hope provide the best quality service was extremely valuable. In addition, she trained and supervised medical volunteers.

Sandy's love for the Lord and for people is evident in the way she interacts with expectant parents, staff and volunteers. About five years ago, a young woman and her five year-old-child stopped by and asked for Sandy. The client shared she had come to Hope six years prior. She was scared and alone because her family had told her she wouldn't be a good mom and should abort. The client said Sandy was the only one who told her, "you can do this," and she wanted Sandy to meet her daughter.

In 2007, Sandy retired as nurse manager but has continued serving Hope as a volunteer nurse and shift leader on Thursday mornings at the north OKC center.

Sandy's husband, Larry, has always been very supportive of her service. Luke 12:34 says, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Larry and Sandy's generosity to Hope in gifts and time demonstrate their hearts are devoted to the Lord's work at Hope.

This is the highest award given by Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children to express "thank you" to people who make an outstanding effort on behalf of born and unborn children in Oklahoma. 12.8.17
