Henry and Lucille Powell have been long-time members of First Baptist Church, Bartlesville, and in recent years very active with the Young at Heart group in their church. Mrs. Powell died of cancer in 1999. Mr. Powell continues to be very active in his church and influential in his community, involved in a number of activities, and is very positive about Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children.

He retired as group controller after thirty nine years with Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville. Mr. Powell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas and is an alumnus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a past president of the Bartlesville Kiwanis Club. Mr. Powell is a member of First Baptist Church of Bartlesville, where he serves as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He has three children. He currently serves as advisor emeritus on the Board of Directors of the Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma. 

In 2002 Mr. Powell was instrumental in adding OBHC students to the Scholarship Program at First Baptist Church, Bartlesville and the recipient will be at the discretion of the President of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children. This program will provide education to OBHC children who apply for scholarship monies to attend Oklahoma Baptist University.

Henry Powell continues to be a major part of the overall ministry of OBHC. His interest and love for children qualifies him for nomination for membership in the Gladys Smith Society. 09-16-05
