Alice MaxeyAlice Maxey

Since the death of her husband, Dr. H. Truman Maxey, Mrs. Alice Maxey has continued to provide love and support for the alumni of OBHC. She is a very active encourager and role model for all of our staff and for the children in our care. She is the constant glue that continues to hold lives together and that is the main reason so many OBHC alumni call her "Mom."

Mrs. Maxey worked along side her husband during their pioneer ministry in Baptist child care beginning in 1935 until his death, August 19, 1998. For three decades she served with him. Their ministry to children began when they moved their family of two sons and one daughter to live on the campus of the Oklahoma Baptist Orphans Home at 63rd and Pennsylvania.

She is a prayer warrior and is happy to pray for the staff and children in our care as she reflected in a recent note to the home office. -- "Thank you for sending me this monthly Prayer Calendar. It’s a wonderful idea. It’s something all of us need to be reminded to pray for these very special people. I just add it on to my prayer calendar in the Open Windows with missionaries as I start each day. God bless you all." - Alice Maxey.

Mrs. Maxey continues to give significant gifts to support the ministry of OBHC. We are grateful to her for her willingness to promote the Alice and H. Truman Maxey Legacy Society.

"Dr. and Mrs. Maxey spent most of their lives helping improve the world by believing that every child could grow into being a valuable, productive adult and by making sure that each and every child had reason to believe in their worth as a human being. The world, Oklahoma, and the Baptist faith is better because of the contributions from the Maxeys. In a wonderful way they took the place of the parents that both Bettye and I had lost and we were better persons because of it." – Orville D. McDonald. He and his wife, Bettye (who is deceased), were former residents of Baptist Children’s Home, Oklahoma City.

"I have known the Maxeys for over twenty years and can say they are a very special couple. Although most of my time with them has been at Homecomings and various meetings, I still know how special they are. I know they are special because I have seen it in the eyes and heard it in the voices of the alumni who know Mom and Pop Maxey." – David Peck, Assistant Administrator, Baptist Children’s Home, Oklahoma City.  03-27-01
