My name is Allysen*. I am from the Moore area and live with my dad and brother. I am currently a freshman. I have lived at Baptist Home for Girls (BHG) for 1 ½ years.

Some of my favorite things to do are clean, write, read, and spend time with my brother. In the future, I want to be a published author! I enjoy playing board games and card games in the cottage. I am a part of our campus ag program, and I show pigs and goats. I enjoy ag, because working with my animals has helped me be a more patient person.

I also am a part of our Speechless program. I enjoy being a part of Speechless, because I think it is cool to know sign language and get to have conversations.

A typical day on campus involves waking up early to eat breakfast together and do a morning Bible study. We will also do our morning chores. We go to school and then come home, have a snack, go to our different programs, do our homework or play games until dinner. Then, we do our chores and our evening Bible study.

This is very different from home. At home, I sat in my room and watched TV or hungout with friends. I like having a routine now, and when I do choose to go to my room, it is to actually rest, not just sit in there. My biggest adjustment was living with a bunch of other people. It took me a long time to get used to that.

I like living at BHG because of the relationships I have built with my houseparents, the Roberts and the Saales. I like that I am able to have a visitation family, the Smiths, and the time I get to spend with them. I like getting to work on building trust with my houseparents and being able to go do things based on their trust. I have gotten the opportunity to do things and go places I would not have been able to do before coming to BHG. I love getting to be able to join different clubs at school and help with events at my church.

Throughout my time here, I am proud that people find me more trustworthy than they did in the past, and I have become more organized. Thanks to my Bible studies, I know that it is important to have integrity in all that I do.

BHG can seem like a scary place to move to, because it is a place full of teenage girls. If you give it a chance, it can be one of the best experiences of your life. As Mrs. Nickolee (one of the housemoms on campus) has taught us, if you are not willing to let God lead your life, then you will not be able to experience what He has in store for you.

Prayer Requests

Please pray for me to continue being the person I have become at BHG when I return home. Pray that I would know what words to say when sharing the gospel with others, and pray for my dad to continue to regain his health.
