Connecting children in need of hope with churches and families who care.
The Great Need
The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) is the state agency mandated by law to investigate allegations of abuse and neglect by parents or caretakers of children. Children come to the attention of DHS because of concerns from a teacher, police officer, family member, friend, doctor, neighbor, concerned citizen or mandated reporter. If DHS finds a family needs help, every effort is made to provide services to help the family resolve their problem and prevent the removal of the children from their home. Only if reasonable efforts fail, will the agency seek authorization from the court to remove the child or children from their family.
Currently, more than 10,000 Oklahoma children are in the custody of DHS and in need of out-of-home placement.
As Christians, we know the Bible tells us on several occasions to look after orphans, rescue the weak and defend the fatherless.
Mark 9:37 (ESV) says:
“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but Him who sent me.”
Is God calling your family to help meet the great need and care for hurting children in DHS custody?
