Dr. K.E. Smith has taken the challenge and responsibility as the state chairman for the Hope & Homes Campaign and previously was a leader in the BBT Campaign. He has served as chairman of the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children Board of Trustees and is in his second year as Advisor to the Trustees.

Dr. K.E. and Frances Smith have three adopted children and are active members of Southern Hills Baptist Church where K.E. serves as a Deacon. Mrs. Smith passed away earlier this year.

Dr. K.E. Smith is known as a businessman with a heart for children. His consistent support encourages others in Oklahoma to support OBHC’s ministry. He continues to be a major contributor to the overall ministry of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children.

Dr. K.E. Smith was born July 3, 1923, in Pomana, Missouri. He attended high school in West Plains, Missouri, graduating in 1941. He then attended the University of Missouri prior to being drafted into the Field Artillery, Infantry Division in 1943. In 1946 he returned home from the Army and re-entered the University for an additional year in pre-medical sciences. At this time his application to the Northern Illinois School of Optometry had been accepted. Upon graduation in 1949, he came to Oklahoma and worked for a short time for his brother-in-law, Dr. G.W. Clay in Ardmore, Oklahoma. In April of 1950 he moved to Oklahoma City and began his private practice in the Capitol Hill area on West Commerce Street. He relocated his office at 5201 S. Western in January 1966. He also established the K.S. Oil Company in 1952, which was originally a hobby but had now become a diversified corporation.

Dr. Smith retired from the optometrist’s profession in 1982 and now works full-time in the oil business.

Dr. Smith has served on the Board of Directors of many institutions in the South Oklahoma City area. Among these are: Kiwanis Club, South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, South Community Hospital which is now Southwest Medical Center, The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Junior Chamber of Commerce, First Enterprise Bank formally Grant Square Bank, First Western Savings and Loan, The Greater Oklahoma City Y.M.C.A., State Fair of Oklahoma, and the Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Dr. Smith enjoys hunting, golfing, and working. 03-25-03
