Scholarship Fund Honors Kelly Bolt by Helping Children

Kelly BoltKelly Jo Bolt spent many years helping children in the care of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, and her work will continue even after her death. Kelly passed away on October 9, 2012, following a brief illness. A scholarship fund established by Putnam City Baptist Church will honor her memory by helping children in OBHC care. Her husband, Jeff, is the minister of worship at the church.

Kelly spent most of her adult life serving God by helping children. She worked 19 years for OBHC in public relations and development. Her passion was raising funds each year to clothe children through the annual “Back-to-School Style Show.” This Oklahoma City event provides clothing and other personal needs for children at the Baptist Children’s Home in Oklahoma City and Boys Ranch Town in Edmond.

The Oklahoma City Style Show was first held in 2000 and has grown in attendance and income each year. The 2012 Style Show was held at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City with approximately 1,200 in attendance. Kelly has directed the event from the beginning.

Kelly enjoyed planning for the event, working with the volunteers and shopping with the children. Her enthusiasm was contagious. She loved interacting with the children and worked hard to make the event a great experience for them.

Lila Kimbler, a style show volunteer said, ”Kelly will be missed by the members of the steering committee. We met with her each month, and she was always generous with her appreciation (one of her gifts). Together it was a good team because of her leadership and willingness to do most of the work. Her goal, in which all of us believed, ‘was to make the upcoming show better than the year before.’ We all loved her deeply.”

The scholarship endowment fund will help children with their education, and the number of children touched by Kelly’s kindness will continue to grow through the coming years. For information about the scholarship fund, please contact Putnam City Baptist Church at (405) 773-6900 or Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children at (405) 942-3800.
