Boys Ranch Town held an evening of CELEBRATION June 13, 2003 for the dedication of Fischer Cottage at 5:00 p.m., Ice Cream Social at 7:30 p.m., and the Boys Ranch Town Rodeo at 8:00 p.m.

Fisher CottageThe newest cottage at Boys Ranch Town, Edmond, was dedicated on June 13. A dinner and a rodeo followed the dedication. The cottage will be known as the Fischer Cottage, and is named for the couple who donated the funds for the building, Don and Wanda Fischer of Hooker, Oklahoma. The new 5,400-square-foot cottage will be home to eight boys and their houseparents and has an apartment for associate houseparents.

If it were up to Don and Wanda Fischer, few people would be aware of their gift, but Tony Kennedy, president of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, persuaded the Fischers to let their gift be known as a way of "letting their light shine to bring glory to God" and as a way of encouraging others to do what they can to help children. Mrs. Fischer says, "We hope it will help some boys who need a chance to succeed in life. We are very thankful we’re able to do this."

Mr. and Mrs. Fischer are long-time friends of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children and Boys Ranch Town. Don’s connection with Boys Ranch Town began in the ‘60’s when he and his brothers, Norman and Allan, had a registered Angus herd and a feedlot and donated beef and grain to BRT. They processed and provided hamburger meat to be used at Boys Ranch Town and the Baptist Children’s Home in Oklahoma City.

Kennedy, OBHC president, says, " I am very thankful to the Fischer brothers and their families for providing grain and beef through the years. They have helped us provide the very best food for the children we serve."

Mr. Fischer adds "We hope this cottage will be a blessing to boys who wouldn’t have much of a chance in life. We hope to see them come to Christ."
