Jean Hack

The first social worker when the Department of Child Care was created was Jean Hack. She began her duties on September 1, 1956, as social work supervisor then quickly became director of the social services work. She pioneered social work for the Department of Child Care in areas such as foster family care, adoption services, family aid, family counseling, and unwed mother services. Jean Hack served for more than 20 years.

In 1962, the nursery at the Children’s Home was closed. All of the pre-school-aged children were placed in Christian foster homes. Also in this year, adoptions increased.
