Care 'N Share Newsletter

Mark My Word

First written in the 'Care 'N Share' - January 1958 by H. Truman Maxey

Original Care 'n Share NewsletterAfter weeks of searching for an appropriate title, there came to my mind the words, Care 'N Share. It so nearly epitomized the total program of our Baptist people in Child Care work. Each describes the full meaning of a personal ministry to the children of our state by the people called Baptists.

This beginning of a paper was in December, 1946, and the first edition was Volume 1, Number 1, and we quote from the editorial, "This is the birthday of a new child, called Care 'N Share...It is hoped that a long and happy life shall be its destiny...This shall be a medium through which we will return to you some of the joys and happiness of those living within our Home. It would take many, many beautiful descriptive words to portray. By this little paper, we shall endeavor to describe the radiant pleasure experienced by those providing for the Home..."

Its purpose has not changed. It has spread out to include the work of the Boys Ranch Town and, therefore, is carrying a still heavier responsibility. This issue is Volume 12, Number 1. We began our 12th year and hope to enlarge our readership. It shall be the medium by which we can bring the Children's Home and the Boys Ranch Town into your home and church each month.

Quotes from the first newsletter:

Care 'n Share is Born

This is the birthday of a new child called CARE 'n SHARE. It will not be necessary to delve very deep into its linage. Suffice it to say that the name is original. It is hoped that a long and happy life shall be its destiny.

For a long while it has appeared that there ought to be a closer relation between the Baptist Orphans' Home and those kind and generous friends who make it possible. Surely every giver has a keen interest in all the activities of the Home and would like to know all about the children and also about what the other Baptists and friends are doing to support the work.

Care 'n Share Will Grow

It is our plan to publish this small paper every three months. This will give us time to gather up all news items for each period and also give ample time to the printer to do his work. We want this little bulletin to be attractive and interesting.

If you like this type of service from our Home, write us a letter or card. The great work of operating a Home like ours will require the close cooperation of everyone interested.

Care 'n Share Will Work

This shall be the medium through which we will return to you some of the joys and happiness of those living within our Home. It would take many, many beautiful descriptive words to portray to you the true meaning of Christmas in the lives of the children in our Home.

By this little paper we shall endeavor to describe the radiant pleasure experienced by those providing for the Home. Never will I forget the blissful delight upon the face of the good doctor who gave the swimming pool. It was truly a heavenly joy. When somebody cares, they do share.
