About This Year's Event

A Note From Donna...

This year marks the 20th anniversary of our annual Back-to-School Style Show and Brunch. We have come a long way since a small group of Tulsa Metro Association WMU members joined together to host the very first Style Show in the basement of First Baptist Church, Tulsa. We expect to celebrate our 20th anniversary with 1,400 guests in the grand ballroom of the Renaissance Hotel!

While the size and scope of the Style Show has changed, the original intent of our first hosts remains the same. The following scripture, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me...” Matthew 25:35-36a, provided the inspiration for the first Style Show. It continues to encourage us unto this very day.

Every child has a dream to belong and to be loved, cherished and accepted. They often come into our care feeling forgotten, in need of security and longing for someone’s heart to open and take an interest in their lives.

The Back-to-School Style Show and Brunch is a wonderful way to show that you care by sharing Christ’s love with each and every child as they proudly model their new clothes. You, as a sponsor, a volunteer or a guest, will help make each child feel deeply valued and loved.

Sincerely,
Donna Brooks

A Busy Place!

Baptist Children’s Home, Owasso, ministers to boys and girls through our residential program. The average student age  is 14 and they attend public school and a local Southern Baptist church. Boling and Leake cottages provide beds for 16 girls. Hardesty Cottage provides beds for 8 boys. New Life maternity cottage provides a home for eight residents with the goal of providing the best prenatal, newborn and new-mom care possible. Transitional living apartments are also offered for high school graduates. Baptist Children’s Home, Owasso, is about to get busier.

A 2016 Women of Compassion grant enabled us to renovate one of our older cottages where Children’s Hope, a program to restore lives of young moms by providing hope and a home, will begin. Children’s Hope is for mothers over the age of 18, committed to a better future for themselves and their children. They will live in a Christian environment with a family advisor who will live in an attached apartment while assisting through guidance and encouragement, with parenting skills, money management, spiritual, personal and relational needs. Please pray for our campus as we begin “Children’s Hope” in 2017.

We are busy “demonstrating God’s love by providing hope through empowering children and their families to follow Christ.” “And so brothers of mine, stand firm!  Let nothing move you as you busy yourselves in the Lord’s work. Be sure that nothing you do for Him is ever lost or wasted.”  1 Cor. 15:58
